Getting a Peppol ID

1. Check if you have the right ID

Any Belgian company will normally already have:

  • KBO/BCE number (Crossroads Bank for Enterprises)
  • VAT number (if VAT-registered)

In Belgium, Peppol IDs are usually based on these

  • 0208:KBO-number → Belgian company number (primary identifier)
  • 9925:VAT-number → VAT-based identifier (optional extra)
  • Sometimes 0088:GLN is used for location-based IDs for bigger / multi-site players. Please contact your AP (Access Point) for more details.

Example:

  • KBO = 01234567890208:0123456789
  • VAT = BE01234567899925:BE0123456789

The Peppol ID is only “real” once it’s registered by a provider in the Peppol network.

2. Choose a Peppol access point (service provider)

You cannot self-register directly with Peppol. You must go via a Peppol-certified access point (sometimes called Peppol service provider).

Access points can be:

  • Your accounting / invoicing software (Billit, Billtobox, CodaBox, etc.)
  • A specialised e-invoicing provider (Storecove, Qvalia, etc.)
  • A provider listed in a Belgian Peppol marketplace / directory of service providers.

Most of them have a “Register on Peppol” or “Activate Peppol” button or a simple form. Some even sell it as a standalone service (e.g. flat fee to register your ID via a partner access point).

3. Register via that provider

The usual flow:

  1. Sign up with the access point / software.
  2. Provide business details: legal name, KBO/BCE, VAT, address, contact details.
  3. They create and register your Peppol participant in the Peppol Service Metadata Publisher (SMP) with your chosen identifier(s), typically:
    • 0208:[your KBO]or9925:[your VAT]or 0088:[your GLN]
  4. They configure which document types (e.g. Peppol BIS invoice / credit note) you can receive and/or send.

Once they push that registration, your Peppol ID is live and reachable.

4. Find or verify your Peppol ID

To check if your company is already on Peppol or confirm what ID is registered:

  • Use the Peppol Directory and search by name, ID, country, etc.

If you appear there with 0208:… or 9925:…, you already have a Peppol ID and can give that to suppliers.
