This guide outlines how to prepare your Zedonk products for integration with Shopify.
Before you begin, it is crucial to understand how the connector handles product variants.
- Standard Export: When using the Product Export feature, each Product (Style + Fabric + Colour) in Zedonk creates a unique, standalone product in Shopify.
- Multi-Colour Variants: If you want a single product page on Shopify to display multiple colour options (variants), you cannot use the standard Product Export. Instead, you must create the product directly in Shopify with your desired variants first and ensure the correct barcode number is assigned to the product variant in Shopify. Then, use the Product IDs Sync action in Zedonk (instead of Product Export) to link them.
Before attempting a product export or product IDs sync, you must ensure all products have a valid barcode assigned in Zedonk.
Barcodes are the unique identifier used to bridge Zedonk and Shopify. If a product does not have a barcode in Zedonk, the connector cannot identify or update it.

Data Mapping: What gets exported?
When you run a Product Export, Zedonk pushes specific data fields to Shopify. Some fields can be customised or excluded in your Shopify Settings.

Zedonk Product Description or 'Description' specified in the Catalogue > Shopify Description
It can be excluded in your Shopify Connector Settings

Are you linking to a NEW Shopify Store?
If your Shopify store is empty, you can use Zedonk to populate it with products created in Zedonk.
- Populate the Catalogue in the Shopify Connector with the products you want to link with Shopify
- Perform a Product Export task from Zedonk. This will create the products in Shopify.
- Customisation: You can amend the Descriptions within the Catalogue before exporting. Alternatively, you can choose to exclude Descriptions or Main Images from the sync in your Shopify Connector Settings if you prefer to manage those directly in Shopify.
Are you linking to an EXISTING Shopify Store?
If you already have products live on Shopify, do not run a standard Product Export, as this may create duplicates.
- Populate the Catalogue in the Shopify Connector with the products you want to link with Shopify.
- Match Barcodes: Ensure the products in Shopify have Barcodes entered that match the Barcodes in Zedonk.
- Run Product IDs Sync: Run the Product IDs Sync action. This scans the barcodes in both systems and links the Zedonk products to the existing Shopify products.
